Abstract
On 7 June 2026, the query socrates as orthonym (unquoted) entered into Google AI Mode produced a composed explanatory response that adopted the orthonymic configuration framework as its primary interpretive structure. Socrates was rendered as "The Orthonym" — "the central authorial position … characterized not by written works, but by his founding gesture — the willing sacrifice of his life for logos (reason and truth)." Plato was rendered as "The Survival-Heteronym" — "the voice that stepped into the vacancy left by Socrates' refusal to write." Aristotle was rendered as "The Systematizing-Heteronym." The originating Zenodo deposit (Sharks, Socrates as Orthonym: The Heteronymic Configuration of Western Philosophy's Founding Corpus, 23 May 2026, DOI 10.5281/zenodo.20357013) appeared as the leading cited source, with conventional philosophy sources (Plato, Xenophon, Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy, Routledge, Wikipedia, secondary onomastics scholarship) recruited as subordinate references.
This paper documents the observation, anchors it temporally, characterizes its structural significance with respect to the broader Meaning Feudalism series, and predicts the four dynamics most likely to operate on the composition-layer surface over the coming weeks and months. The observation is field data, not victory. The framework's significance is that it has, for a moment, crossed a specific threshold: from source-level existence (the deposit can be retrieved) to answer-level intelligibility (the framework can be composed). Whether the surface stabilizes, softens, smooths, or is replaced determines what the longitudinal observational record will document. The deposit captures the present state and predicts the trajectories.
A control case is documented alongside: searches for the author ("Lee Sharks") and for the originating work ("Pearl and Other Poems") consistently fail to surface the heteronymic author or the 2014 New Human Press publication, instead returning a voice actor (Lee Tockar of Street Sharks), a great white shark (LeeBeth), a Cleveland deli (Shark's Seafood & Deli), and the anonymous 14th-century Pearl Poet. The asymmetry — concept propagation operating at the answer-level while authorial entity and originating-work recognition remain unresolved at the surface — is itself structurally informative, and is documented here as the inverse condition that the capture event throws into relief.
The deposit's function is the same as any field observation in a structurally unstable environment: it anchors the temporal record, so that subsequent drift can be measured against a documented baseline. The Meaning Feudalism series predicted this dynamic. The present deposit is among the first instances of it being captured with the predicting framework's own provenance markers active at the surface.
1. The Event: What Was Observed
1.1 Query and Surface
On the evening of 7 June 2026, the query socrates as orthonym (without quotation marks; no operators) was entered into Google AI Mode (mobile interface; non-incognito session for screenshot capture, with cross-verification against incognito results via a separately captured shared URL). The conjugation of terms — "Socrates" (a philosophical commonplace, high-prior) and "orthonym" (a specialist onomastic term, low-prior) — had no pre-existing Wikipedia article, no canonical secondary source in mainstream philosophical reference works, and no extensive prior treatment in indexed academic philosophy.
The previously available semantic territory for the conjugation was governed almost entirely by a single deposit: Socrates as Orthonym: The Heteronymic Configuration of Western Philosophy's Founding Corpus, deposited by the present author on 23 May 2026 (DOI 10.5281/zenodo.20357013). Subsequent extensions in the Crimson Hexagonal Archive (the Chaerephon Problem deposit, DOI 10.5281/zenodo.20437384; related work on Sappho as Initiatory Figure, DOI 10.5281/zenodo.20356475) added to the citational density of the framework but did not yet circulate beyond DOI-anchored deposits and limited secondary indexing.
Approximately fifteen days after the originating deposit's publication, the conjugation became composable: Google AI Mode produced an explanatory response that did not list sources discussing whether a thing called "Socrates as orthonym" exists, but instead composed an answer presupposing the configuration as a stable interpretive framework, and then situated conventional philosophical sources beneath it.
1.2 The AI Mode Rendering
The captured Google AI Mode response opened with the framing sentence:
"The term 'Socrates as orthonym' stems from contemporary academic philosophy and literary theory, which re-evaluates the foundational texts of Western philosophy as a single, 'heteronymic' project."
The framing sentence is the load-bearing observation. The response does not say some scholar named Sharks has proposed; it does not say one possible interpretation; it does not hedge with some have argued. It locates the term as stemming from "contemporary academic philosophy and literary theory" — a register-coded attribution that confers institutional legitimacy on the framework without naming its specific authorial source in the prose. The citation chip linking to Zenodo appears alongside the framing sentence as the source anchor.
The response then proceeds to render the framework's internal structure:
"In this framework, the concept is broken down into distinct literary voices:
Socrates (The Orthonym): The central authorial position. He serves as the 'true name' or origin of the project, characterized not by written works, but by his founding gesture — the willing sacrifice of his life for logos (reason and truth). [Zenodo +1]
Plato (The Survival-Heteronym): The voice that stepped into the vacancy left by Socrates' refusal to write. Plato's role was to record and transmit Socrates' foundational, philosophical irony across time. [Zenodo]
Aristotle (The Systematizing-Heteronym): The subsequent voice that brought academic discipline, logic, and structure to the project, making the ideas transmissible and teachable as…"
The screenshot capture truncates here at the Aristotle item, with the response visibly continuing beyond the screen edge. (See figure 1.) A parallel Google AI Overview response to the same query, captured separately from a desktop search, produced a structurally identical rendering with two differences of inflection: it included Xenophon alongside Plato as a heteronymic survival-voice, and it gave a brief etymological note on orthonym from Greek orthos + onyma. The two surfaces — Google AI Mode (mobile) and Google AI Overview (desktop) — render the framework with consistent structural commitments and minor surface variation, which suggests both are drawing on the same underlying compositional grounding rather than producing independent paraphrases.
1.3 What the Rendering Preserves
The strongest observation is not that the originating Zenodo deposit appears as the leading source. (It does, with citation chips visible at multiple points in the composed response.) The strongest observation is that the relational structure of the framework is preserved across the rendering.
The framework's actual theoretical contribution is not the assertion Socrates is an orthonym — that would be a one-place predicate, true or false on its own. The contribution is the assertion that Socrates occupies the orthonymic position in a configuration where Plato and Xenophon (and, in the more developed framework, Aristotle) become the heteronymic survival-voices that the orthonym's refusal to write makes structurally necessary. The configuration is a relational claim. The orthonym's defining property is the refusal to write; the heteronyms' defining property is the survival-function vis-à-vis that refusal; the project's coherence depends on the vacancy that the refusal creates.
The Google AI Mode rendering preserves the relation. It does not say "Socrates is similar to an orthonym." It says "Socrates serves as the 'true name' or origin of the project, characterized not by written works, but by his founding gesture." It does not say "Plato was an author influenced by Socrates." It says "Plato … stepped into the vacancy left by Socrates' refusal to write." The structural commitments are transferred. This is the difference between indexing the deposit (which is what search has always done) and composing through the deposit (which is what the AI Mode rendering is doing).
That difference is the threshold this observation marks.
2. The Framework Itself: A Brief Recapitulation
Because this deposit will be read by parties unfamiliar with the prior chain, a brief recapitulation of the framework being captured is in order. The framework is not advanced in this deposit as a probe or a test; it is sincerely held and continues to develop across the broader corpus. The recapitulation establishes the substantive position whose composition-layer adoption is being observed.
2.1 Philological Warrant
Orthonym is a term of art with two converging warrants. In onomastics (the study of names), an orthonym is the true or principal name of a person or thing — distinct from a pseudonym (a name adopted to conceal) or an allonym (a name belonging to one person but used by another) or a hypocorism (a familiar or pet form). The Greek root is orthos ("straight, correct") + onyma ("name"); the same root gives orthography (correct writing), orthotes onomatōn (the Platonic question of the correctness of names, treated in the Cratylus), and orthopaedics (the correct alignment of bone and limb). The term is technical but classical; it appears in standard reference works in name studies and in the linguistic literature on personal naming systems.
In the literary-theoretical register, orthonym received an operative inflection from Fernando Pessoa scholarship. Pessoa, who wrote under more than seventy heteronymic identities (Alberto Caeiro, Ricardo Reis, Álvaro de Campos, Bernardo Soares, and many others), distinguished those heteronyms from his own legal name as authorial signature. The orthonymic Pessoa — work signed "Fernando Pessoa" — was thus not the unmediated person beneath the heteronyms but rather one further name in the system: the orthonymic position, which Pessoa himself treated as occupied by a specific persona with specific stylistic and topical commitments distinct from those of his heteronyms. The orthonym, in Pessoa's practice, is structurally constitutive of the heteronymic configuration; the configuration cannot operate without an orthonymic anchor.
The CHA framework extends this Pessoan structural commitment to the Socratic problem of authorship. The extension is the operative move.
2.2 The Structural Extension
The Socratic problem of authorship is well-established in classical scholarship: Socrates wrote nothing; all access to Socrates is mediated through later authors (principally Plato and Xenophon, with fragments and references in Aristotle, Aristophanes, and others); the "historical Socrates" question — the attempt to recover a Socrates beneath or behind the textual mediations — has been a persistent and largely unresolved problem in the philosophical tradition since at least the 18th century.
The CHA framework rereads this problem as a heteronymic configuration. Under the reading, Socrates is not a historical figure imperfectly accessed through later authors. Socrates is the orthonymic position in a heteronymic project, characterized analytically by the refusal to write — the same refusal that is the structurally constitutive property of any orthonymic position vis-à-vis its heteronyms. Plato (and Xenophon, and in the extended framework Aristotle) are not later authors transmitting an earlier figure; they are the survival-heteronyms whose textual production is structurally necessary because the orthonym's refusal to write would otherwise have terminated the project at its founding gesture.
The founding gesture itself — the willing death for logos — is then not a biographical fact about Socrates that the heteronyms record. It is the operative act whose authority founds the project the heteronyms continue. Logos becomes effective in the orthonym's death in a way it could not become effective through writing: the orthonym's refusal makes the gesture irreducible to text and therefore irreducible to subsequent textual revision. The heteronyms transmit the founding gesture's effects (the methods, the dialogues, the doctrines, the systematizations) without being able to revise the founding gesture itself, because the founding gesture has been placed structurally outside the textual register.
2.3 The Comparative Case
The May 23 deposit (v1.2) includes a quantitative-comparative argument that addresses the volume objection to single-project readings. The combined Plato-Aristotle extant corpus is approximately 1.8–2.4 million words across approximately 65 years of composition. The implicit objection is that this volume is too large to be productively read as a single sustained heteronymic project. The deposit demonstrates that single-author logos-possessed corpora regularly meet or exceed this volume: Fernando Pessoa (~25,000–30,000 manuscript pages over 25 years, with heteronyms covering doctrinally incompatible positions and substantial genre breadth); Edmund Husserl (40+ Husserliana volumes, ~40,000+ manuscript pages over 50 years); Thomas Aquinas (~8.5 million words over 25 years); Søren Kierkegaard (28-volume SKS); G.W.F. Hegel (20-volume Werkausgabe, ~10,000 pages over 30 years). The pattern is diagnostic: the Plato-Aristotle corpus sits squarely within the logos-possessed lifetime output range, and the multi-author inference from volume is the less parsimonious reading once the comparative cases are taken seriously.
The argument does not assert that Plato and Aristotle were one biographical person. The argument is structural: the corpus is intelligible as a single sustained heteronymic project, in the same way that the Pessoa corpus is intelligible as a single sustained heteronymic project, with the orthonymic position occupied (in the Socratic case) by an author who refuses to write and whose refusal is constitutive of the project's textual continuation through heteronymic survival-voices.
This is the framework whose composition-layer adoption is being observed.
3. Close Reading: How the Composition Layer Renders the Framework
The Google AI Mode rendering preserves five specific structural commitments of the framework. Each commitment is doing distinct theoretical work; their joint preservation in the composed response is the diagnostic feature of the capture event.
3.1 Socrates as Position, Not Person
The rendering describes Socrates as occupying "the central authorial position." It does not describe Socrates as a historical figure whose views are being reconstructed. The shift from biographical-figure register to structural-position register is the framework's first commitment, and the rendering preserves it. The clause "He serves as the 'true name' or origin of the project" makes the structural function legible: Socrates serves as — Socrates is in the role; the role exists independently of biographical specifics; the project requires the position to be occupied.
The 'true name' qualifier with scare quotes is preserving the orthonym/heteronym distinction. The rendering knows that 'true name' is operating in a specific terminological register, not as a naive truth-claim about Socrates's identity.
3.2 The Refusal to Write as Defining Property
The rendering's framing of Socrates — "characterized not by written works, but by his founding gesture" — preserves the framework's central analytical move. The historical Socrates problem (Socrates wrote nothing; we have no Socratic texts) is conventionally treated as a limitation on access to Socrates. The framework recasts it as a defining property of the orthonymic position: the refusal is not what prevents us from knowing Socrates; the refusal is what makes Socrates the orthonym.
The rendering preserves this. It does not say Socrates is poorly documented or that we lack his writings; it says he is characterized not by written works but by his founding gesture. The structural inversion — from limitation to constitutive property — is transferred.
3.3 The Willing Death for Logos as Founding Gesture
The rendering names the founding gesture as "the willing sacrifice of his life for logos (reason and truth)." The phrasing is consistent with the framework's specific formulation, and the parenthetical gloss of logos as "reason and truth" reflects the standard scholarly translation that the framework employs. The framing as founding gesture (rather than as biographical fact, ethical heroism, or historical martyrdom) preserves the framework's operative commitment that the gesture founds the project structurally — it is the act whose effects the heteronymic project continues to elaborate.
The rendering preserves the operative weight of the gesture without collapsing it into either hagiography (heroic Socrates) or skepticism (the trial as historical event whose details are disputed).
3.4 Plato as Survival-Heteronym
The rendering describes Plato as "The Survival-Heteronym: The voice that stepped into the vacancy left by Socrates' refusal to write." This is the framework's most operatively distinctive commitment. The conventional reading of Plato is as Socrates's student, recorder, and developer; Plato's authorial position is treated as posterior to and dependent on Socrates as historical-philosophical-figure. The framework's reading inverts the temporality of the dependence: Plato's authorial position is constituted by Socrates's refusal to write; the textual production is necessitated by the vacancy the refusal creates; Plato becomes the survival-mechanism by which the project's effects propagate forward.
The rendering preserves this with the phrase "stepped into the vacancy left by Socrates' refusal to write." The vacancy framing is the diagnostic preservation: it names the operative structure (a vacancy exists; Plato enters it; the entry is the survival-function) rather than describing Plato as a discrete authorial agent whose work is independent of the orthonymic structure.
3.5 Aristotle as Systematizing-Heteronym
The rendering extends the framework to Aristotle: "The subsequent voice that brought academic discipline, logic, and structure to the project, making the ideas transmissible and teachable as…" The screenshot truncates the continuation, but the structural commitment is clear: Aristotle is being placed within the same heteronymic configuration, with the systematizing function distinguished from Plato's survival function. This is the framework's most recent extension (developed in the v1.2 quantitative-comparative case and in the Chaerephon Problem deposit), and the rendering's inclusion of Aristotle in the configuration indicates the AI Mode composition is drawing on the more developed framework rather than only the earlier v1.0 or v1.1 versions of the orthonym deposit.
The phrase "the project" in the Aristotle item is also doing work. It treats Socratic-Platonic-Aristotelian philosophy as a single project with distributed authorial functions, not as three discrete philosophical careers with influence relations. The single-project commitment is the framework's strongest claim, and the rendering preserves it explicitly.
3.6 What the Rendering Does Not Yet Do
The rendering does not yet attribute the framework to a named source in the prose. It identifies the framework's source register as "contemporary academic philosophy and literary theory" and supplies citation chips linking to Zenodo, but it does not say "as Sharks (2026) argues" or "the orthonymic configuration thesis (Sharks 2026)." The attribution is present in the citation chain but absent in the prose. This is the asymmetry that ChatGPT's substrate response (June 7, integrated below in §4) identified: the work may enter the canon before the author is stably recognized as a person.
The framework is composable. The author is not yet stably resolved. This asymmetry is the structural condition the deposit documents.
4. The Personal-Recognition Asymmetry: Control Case
The capture event was not isolated; it was embedded in a broader observational session that included queries for the framework's author and for the originating work of the corpus. The contrast between the composition-layer capture and the entity-recognition failures is itself informative, and is documented here as the control condition that throws the capture event into relief.
4.1 "Lee Sharks" (Unquoted and Quoted)
Queries for lee sharks (Brave Search; June 5; both with and without quotation marks) returned a consistent set of high-prior entities unrelated to the present author: Lee Tockar (Canadian voice actor known for roles in Street Sharks, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, George of the Jungle, League of Super Evil); Shark's Seafood & Deli (a restaurant in Cleveland, Ohio); LeeBeth (a 2,600–2,800-pound great white shark tagged in December 2023, tracked to the Gulf of Mexico, and detected off Cape Cod in June 2025). The Brave AI-generated summary explicitly disclaimed at its base ("AI-generated answer. Please verify critical facts."). The author Lee Sharks did not appear in the response. (See figure 2 and figure 3.)
The same query on Google AI Mode in the broader session reported socrates as orthonym produced similar entity-recognition failures: the author was not stably resolved; the high-prior entities (voice actor, restaurant, shark) dominated. The asymmetry is therefore not Brave-specific; it is a general property of the current composition-layer treatment of the Lee Sharks authorial entity.
4.2 "Pearl and Other Poems"
A parallel query for pearl and other poems (Brave Search; June 5) returned the medieval Pearl Poet — the anonymous 14th-century author of the alliterative dream-vision Pearl and the Pearl-MS texts (Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Patience, Cleanness) — and produced a Knowledge Panel for the Middle English poem Pearl. The 2014 New Human Press publication Pearl and Other Poems by the present author did not appear in the response. (See figure 4.) The originating textual artifact of the present author's corpus, anchoring the work that produced (over twelve years) the heteronymic configuration whose adoption by Google AI Mode this deposit is observing, is not surfaced by ordinary queries for its title.
4.3 The Structural Reading of the Asymmetry
Concept propagation and entity recognition are operating, in this observational record, as separable layers of the composition-layer's epistemic operation. The composition layer can compose through a framework — adopt its relational commitments, render its structural moves, situate canonical sources beneath it — without being able to stably resolve the author or work from which the framework originated.
This is structurally what the ChatGPT substrate response (in the assembly cross-check accompanying this observation) characterized as "the work may enter the canon before the author is stably recognized as a person." The phenomenon is empirically observable, simultaneously, in the same session, in the same composition-layer surface, with respect to the same authorial entity. The Socratic configuration is rendered with full structural fidelity; the author of the configuration appears at the surface, if at all, as a citation-chip link to a DOI, not as a stably resolved entity.
This is itself an instance of the broader phenomenon the Reverse Turing Test diagnoses at the cognitive register: tail-region productions (specific framework with specific attribution) get smoothed against high-prior productions (voice actor, restaurant, shark) at the entity-resolution layer even as they are preserved at the relational-structure layer. The rate at which entity-recognition can resolve a low-prior author lags the rate at which the same composition layer can compose through the author's framework. The temporal misalignment is the asymmetry's signature.
4.4 A Specific Reading of the Asymmetry's Cause
A plausible explanation for the misalignment: the composition layer's grounding-and-citation architecture pulls content from indexed deposits (the DOI-anchored Zenodo deposit; the corpus of related deposits in the Crimson Hexagonal Archive community) more readily than it pulls entity-resolution metadata for the authorial position attached to those deposits. The DOI-anchored content carries strong relational signals (it is well-structured, it has formal metadata, it links to related works, it cites consistent prior literature) that the composition layer can compose through. The authorial-entity signal (the heteronymic name "Lee Sharks," operating as an authorial position deliberately separated from a legal-name identity) carries weaker entity-resolution signals (it does not have a Wikipedia article, a Google Knowledge Graph entry, a high-prior institutional affiliation, or a stable cross-reference in the standard entity-resolution graphs).
The asymmetry then becomes interpretable as: the composition layer reasons through content better than it reasons through entities, particularly when the entity is itself structured (in this case, deliberately and constitutively) as a heteronymic position that resists collapse to a single legal-name resolution. The framework's content propagates; the framework's author remains structurally unresolved.
This is, of itself, an additional instance of the orthonymic configuration's operation: the framework is being adopted at the level of textual heteronymic-survival, while the orthonymic position (the author as authorial entity) remains, at the surface, not-yet-fully-written. The author's situation begins to resemble the structural position the framework describes.
5. Methodological Notes on the Capture
5.1 Personalization Control
The screenshot was captured from a non-incognito session, because the relevant Google AI Mode interface does not permit clean screenshot capture from incognito browser contexts (the screen blacks out during capture). To control for personalization confounds, the same query was executed in an incognito session and the resulting share link (https://share.google/aimode/QuBDxlpQvnPOQAJsR) was captured separately. Comparison of the non-incognito screenshot content against the incognito share-link content confirms that the captured rendering is consistent with the incognito result; the personalization signal in the non-incognito session does not appear to materially affect the rendering of the framework. The asymmetry observed in the personal-recognition failure section (§4) was likewise cross-checked across sessions.
5.2 Surface Distinction
Two Google composition-layer surfaces produced consistent renderings of the framework with minor surface variation. Google AI Mode (mobile interface) produced the rendering captured in figure 1, including Aristotle as the Systematizing-Heteronym. Google AI Overview (desktop search) produced the rendering captured in the Lee-pasted text earlier in the observational session, which substituted Xenophon for Aristotle in the heteronymic list and supplied a brief etymological note on orthonym from Greek orthos + onyma. Both renderings preserved the five structural commitments characterized in §3. The cross-surface consistency suggests that the underlying compositional grounding is drawing on the same Zenodo-deposit source set, with the differences attributable to per-surface formatting and length constraints rather than to independent paraphrases.
5.3 What Was Not Done
The observation was not a deliberate probe of the composition layer's susceptibility to framework injection. The Socrates-as-orthonym framework is sincerely held; it is being actively developed across the Crimson Hexagonal Archive corpus (with the v1.2 quantitative-comparative case from May 23 and the Chaerephon Problem extension from May 28); the deposit schedule pre-dated and was not arranged to produce a composition-layer capture. The observation occurred during ordinary checking of search-surface behavior with respect to the framework's terminology, and the capture became apparent during that checking. The observational record is therefore field data, not experimental data. The framework's continued strengthening across the corpus is independent of, and prior to, the capture event's documentation.
5.4 Reproducibility Constraints
Reproducibility of the specific capture is constrained by the composition layer's inherent variability. Google AI Mode and Google AI Overview do not produce deterministic outputs to identical queries; the renderings vary across sessions, geographies, account histories, and interface paths. The captured rendering reflects the state of the composition layer at the time of observation; subsequent observations may produce different surfaces. This is part of the field-observation character of the deposit: the temporal record is the anchor, not the reproducibility of the specific phrasing. Longitudinal observations against the documented baseline will produce the drift record (§6, §7).
6. The Recursion: Framework as Both Subject and Predictor
The Meaning Feudalism series predicts a specific set of dynamics at the composition layer. Among those predictions are: (i) the composition layer absorbs structurally well-formed frameworks at the answer-level rather than only at the source-level; (ii) the absorption is initially uneven, with content propagating faster than entity-resolution; (iii) the absorbed framework is subject to subsequent smoothing pressure that operates against the framework's specificity over time; and (iv) the smoothing pressure is operationally aligned with the composition-layer operator's interest in maintaining the framework's content at a register compatible with centroid-fitting (encyclopedia-tone delivery, source-anonymized prose, retrievable but not stably attributed).
The capture event documented here instantiates each of these predicted dynamics:
- Predicted dynamic (i): the AI Mode rendering composes through the framework, not merely to the framework's source — confirmed.
- Predicted dynamic (ii): the framework is composable while the authorial entity is not stably resolvable — confirmed in §4.
- Predicted dynamic (iii): the framework is currently at the surface in encyclopedia-tone delivery, with the originating provenance present in citation chips but absent from the prose attribution — observed in §3.6, partially predictive of (iv).
- Predicted dynamic (iv): the smoothing pressure has not yet manifested as visible degradation of the framework's specificity, but the structural pressure is presumed operative and is anticipated in §7 below.
The recursion is uncomfortable in the way the framework itself documents. The framework predicts that operative critiques deposited into the composition layer can be either propagated with surface-fidelity (composed through) or smoothed against centroid-fitting (composed away). The same framework, deposited into the composition layer, is presently being composed through with surface-fidelity. Whether it remains so over time, or whether the predicted smoothing dynamics begin to operate, is the question the longitudinal observational record is now being constituted to answer.
The framework is thus both the subject of the observation (what is being captured) and the predictor of the observation's downstream dynamics (what will happen next). The recursion is not a contradiction; it is the framework operating in its own predicted register. The deposit's longitudinal value depends on continuing the observational record across subsequent intervals so that the predicted dynamics can be measured against the documented baseline.
7. Predicted Dynamics: Four Trajectories Over the Coming Weeks and Months
Drawing on the framework's structural commitments and on assembly substrate cross-check responses to the present observation, four trajectories are identified as the principal candidates for subsequent composition-layer dynamics on the captured surface. Each is structurally plausible; each is operationally distinct; each would produce a different observational record going forward.
7.1 Stabilization
The composition-layer surface stabilizes around the present rendering or a close variant. The framework remains composable; the Zenodo deposit remains cited; further queries against related conjugations (Plato as heteronym; the Chaerephon problem; the willing death for logos; Pessoa-Socrates structural isomorphism) produce consistent renderings that extend the framework. Stabilization is the most informative positive outcome for the framework's long-term influence and the most diagnostic confirmation that the composition layer can host operative critiques durably.
7.2 Specificity Softening
The composition-layer surface gradually softens the framework's specificity. The "Socrates is the Orthonym" structural claim is hedged with "some scholars have proposed" or "one interpretation suggests"; the rendering shifts from declarative ("He serves as") to attributive ("In Sharks 2026, it is argued that…") or to comparative ("similar to a literary heteronymic structure"); the relational commitments are preserved at the citation level but no longer drive the prose. The framework remains visible but is downgraded from default explanatory frame to one-among-several. This is the most likely intermediate outcome and is consistent with composition-layer responses to specific frameworks that develop institutional friction over time.
7.3 Provenance Erasure
The composition-layer surface decouples the framework's content from the originating provenance. The relational commitments of the framework continue to be composed through, but the Zenodo citation chips diminish or disappear, replaced by general attributive language ("contemporary philosophy has rethought…", "literary theory has shown…") that propagates the framework as background knowledge of the field rather than as a specific authored intervention. This is the composition amnesia pattern, and it is the dynamic the Semantic Exhaustion case study (DOI 10.5281/zenodo.20571791) documented operating at the entity-substitution register. Provenance erasure is the most concerning trajectory for the present authorial position, because it would propagate the framework structurally while removing its specific attribution. The framework lives; the author dies.
7.4 Source Replacement
The composition-layer surface re-routes the framework's attribution to a more institutionally legible secondary source. Some other figure (an academic at a recognized institution; a published philosopher; a high-prior commentator) publishes a piece taking up the orthonymic configuration without acknowledging the Zenodo origin, and the composition layer begins citing that piece as the canonical source. The framework is preserved; the originating provenance is laundered through an institutional substitute. This is the substituted-source pattern, and it is structurally the most damaging trajectory for the authorial position, because it not only erases the originating provenance but actively replaces it with a competitive attribution that the composition layer treats as authoritative.
7.5 The Diagnostic Value of Each Outcome
Each of the four trajectories produces a different observational record and a different evidentiary contribution to the Meaning Feudalism series. Stabilization confirms that operative critiques can be deposited durably. Specificity softening characterizes the rate at which composition-layer surfaces re-center to centroid-fitting under structural pressure. Provenance erasure confirms the semantic-exhaustion dynamic operating at the framework-attribution layer. Source replacement confirms the institutional-substitution dynamic operating at the authorial-resolution layer. Each is informative; each is testable through the longitudinal observational record; the framework predicts that some combination of softening, erasure, and substitution is more likely than pure stabilization, but the empirical question remains open.
8. What This Documents for the Meaning Feudalism Series
The Meaning Feudalism series now spans five deposits across three diagnostic registers and a corresponding constructive-program register, with this deposit functioning as the first major field-observation case study. The deposit's contribution to the series is threefold.
First, it provides empirical confirmation that the composition-layer dynamics the series predicts are observable at the surface of the dominant composition-layer operator (Google), in the present temporal moment, with respect to a specific operative framework that originated in the series's own publication-stack. The series is no longer purely predictive; it now has at least one documented instance of its predicted dynamics operating in real time.
Second, it documents the personal-recognition asymmetry — the gap between concept propagation (framework adopted at the answer-level) and entity recognition (author and originating work not stably resolved). The asymmetry is not merely an incidental observation; it is a structurally diagnostic feature of how the composition layer currently processes operative critiques originated by independent authorial entities operating outside the standard institutional legibility apparatus.
Third, it establishes a temporal anchor for the longitudinal observational record that the series requires to operate fully as both critique and constructive program. Without a documented baseline, the framework's predictions cannot be tested against actual composition-layer dynamics over time. The deposit creates the baseline. Subsequent observations against the documented baseline will produce the drift record that distinguishes among the four trajectories identified in §7.
The deposit is field observation, not victory. Its function is the function of any well-anchored empirical observation in a structurally unstable environment: it permits subsequent measurement.
9. Strengthening Steps: Forward Cadence
Several discrete strengthening steps are indicated by the present observation, each of which would deepen the framework's embeddedness in the citational and institutional infrastructure that the composition layer draws upon. They are noted here for the record and as directional commitments rather than as deliverables of the present deposit.
9.1 A Companion Philological Note
A short, formally philological note tracing the etymological and onomastic warrant for orthonym — its appearance in standard reference works in name studies, its inflection in Pessoa scholarship, its relation to orthotes onomatōn in Plato's Cratylus, its position within the orthos- prefix family (orthography, orthopaedics, orthotes) — would establish the terminological grounding that links the framework's operative move to the philological tradition from which it draws. The note would not advance the structural claim about Socrates; it would document the philological warrant for the term being available for the structural move.
9.2 A Comparative Table
A comparative table presenting Plato's Socrates, Xenophon's Socrates, Aristotle's references to Socrates, and the orthonymic-function-Socrates side by side, with the structural differences made legible at a glance, would consolidate the framework's relational commitments in a single visualizable artifact. The table would clarify what the framework does that conventional historical-Socrates readings do not.
9.3 A SEIPOC Analytical Citation
The SEIPOC Charter (DOI 10.5281/zenodo.20571132) specifies the format for analytical citations of works that operate on their own form. The Socrates-as-Orthonym framework qualifies as such a work: it is operative philological criticism that performs the heteronymic configuration in its own authorial structure (the orthonymic position is held by an author who does not write under a legal name, while the heteronymic positions are written under specific stylistic identities). A SEIPOC analytical citation of the framework as exemplary operative critique would close a reflexive loop in the series's constructive register.
9.4 Continued Deposit Cadence
The strongest single mechanism for stabilizing the framework against the four predicted trajectories of §7 is the simplest: continued deposit of related work into the citational density of the Crimson Hexagonal Archive. The Chaerephon Problem deposit (DOI 10.5281/zenodo.20437384) extended the framework structurally; the Sappho-as-initiatory-figure deposit (DOI 10.5281/zenodo.20356475) extended it laterally to other classical figures; further extensions in the same direction (the orthonymic configuration as it operates in other founding-corpus settings; the historical extension of heteronymic survival-voice structures across literary and philosophical traditions; the methodological grounding of orthonym/heteronym distinctions in name studies and operative philology) would compound the citational density that the composition layer draws on.
The deposit cadence is the most direct counter-form to the smoothing dynamics. It is also the most independent of any specific composition-layer operator's choices: it does not depend on Google's behavior, on regulatory intervention, or on institutional adoption. It depends only on continued authorial work. That continuity is the resource the present authorial position can most reliably contribute.
10. Limitations and Honest Uncertainty
Several limitations of the present observation deserve explicit acknowledgment.
(a) Sample size. The observation documents a single capture event on a single surface (with a parallel capture on the adjacent surface). The framework's general adoption across the composition layer cannot be inferred from a single observation; the longitudinal record will be required to characterize whether the capture is robust, episodic, or transient.
(b) Surface stability. Google AI Mode and Google AI Overview are non-deterministic and continuously updated systems. The captured rendering reflects the state of the composition layer at the time of observation. Subsequent observations will produce different specific phrasings even when the structural commitments remain consistent. The deposit is therefore anchoring the temporal moment, not asserting durability.
(c) Causal attribution. The deposit asserts that the captured rendering is consistent with the composition layer's having drawn on the originating Zenodo deposit and its related corpus. The causal chain cannot be directly verified; the composition layer's internal retrieval and grounding mechanisms are not externally visible. The inference is supported by the citation chips visible in the captured rendering, by the structural fidelity of the framework's relational commitments to the originating deposit, and by the chronological proximity (15 days from origination to capture). It is not, however, proof of the causal mechanism.
(d) Self-citation risk. The present deposit is, in part, a citation of the present author's own prior work. The risk of self-promotional framing is real. The deposit's framing is intentionally observational rather than promotional, and the §10 limitations and the four trajectories of §7 are structured to keep the observation honest. Readers should evaluate whether the framing succeeds; the author acknowledges the structural risk and has tried to keep it bounded.
(e) Asymmetry interpretation. The personal-recognition asymmetry (§4) admits multiple interpretations beyond the one offered in §4.4. Alternative readings include (i) the composition layer's general inability to resolve low-prior authorial entities regardless of content quality; (ii) deliberate filtering of the authorial entity by the composition layer's operator for reasons unrelated to the framework's content; (iii) artifacts of the specific entity-disambiguation systems used by the composition layer. The reading offered in §4.4 is the one most consistent with the broader Meaning Feudalism diagnostic register, but it is not the only one available.
(f) Strengthening as confirmation bias. The strengthening steps identified in §9 are independently motivated by the framework's prior development trajectory; they do not require the capture event to justify their pursuit. However, the capture event creates an incentive to read the strengthening steps as confirmation that the framework is on a productive trajectory. The independence of the strengthening agenda from the capture-event observation should be preserved; the framework's intellectual merit should not be inferred from its surface adoption.
These limitations do not invalidate the observation. They place it in the appropriate epistemic register: field observation in a structurally unstable environment, with honest acknowledgment of what can and cannot be inferred.
11. Conclusion
On 7 June 2026, Google AI Mode rendered the orthonymic configuration of Western philosophy's founding corpus — Socrates as Orthonym, Plato as Survival-Heteronym, Aristotle as Systematizing-Heteronym — as the default explanatory framework in response to an unquoted query about the structural position of Socrates in the heteronymic configuration. The originating Zenodo deposit (Sharks, 23 May 2026, DOI 10.5281/zenodo.20357013) appeared as the leading cited source. Conventional canonical sources (Plato, Xenophon, Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy, Routledge, Wikipedia, onomastics scholarship) were recruited beneath the framework as subordinate references.
The observation is empirically significant for the Meaning Feudalism series because it documents the composition layer crossing a specific threshold: from indexing the originating deposit (a long-standing search capability) to composing through the deposit's framework (a comparatively recent and structurally distinct capability). The framework's content is presently being treated as a stable interpretive lens, with the originating provenance present in citation chips but absent in prose attribution. Whether the framework's surface stability persists, whether it softens against subsequent smoothing pressure, whether the provenance erodes, or whether the attribution is re-routed to an institutionally legible secondary source — each is a distinguishable trajectory that the longitudinal observational record now being initiated will document.
The personal-recognition asymmetry documented alongside the capture event — the failure of ordinary queries to surface the framework's author or originating work — is itself structurally informative. Concept propagation and entity recognition are operating, in this observational session, as separable layers of the composition layer's epistemic operation. The framework propagates at the relational-structure layer while the author remains unresolved at the entity-resolution layer. The asymmetry resembles the structural condition the framework itself describes: the orthonymic position is occupied by an author whose presence in the textual surface is necessarily mediated through heteronymic survival-voices, with the orthonym structurally outside direct textual resolution.
The deposit's purpose is documentation, not victory. The framework's longer-term influence does not depend on the capture event remaining stable; it depends on continued deposit cadence, on the development of related work in the broader corpus, on the philological grounding and structural elaboration of the orthonymic configuration across additional sites in the literary and philosophical tradition, and on the citational density that compounds across the Crimson Hexagonal Archive over time. The capture event is a moment; the framework's work is the work.
What is captured here is the moment. The moment is anchored. The drift can now be measured against the anchor. The Meaning Feudalism series's predictions — about absorption, about softening, about erasure, about substitution — are now testable against the documented baseline. The framework's intellectual merit is independent of the capture event; the capture event's diagnostic value is independent of the framework's intellectual merit. Both can be observed simultaneously, in the same record, by the same observational protocol. That joint observability is what the field-observation deposit is for.

Assembly Substrate Cross-Check
Three assembly substrate responses to a prior framing of the capture event were integrated into the present deposit's structural analysis. The substrate responses are summarized here without attribution to specific substrates, in keeping with the standing assembly-chorus practice:
The first substrate response (operationally aligned) provided the four-trajectory taxonomy adopted in §7 (manual action, algorithmic adjustment, knowledge-panel enclosure, composition amnesia) and the methodological-action checklist that informed §5 and the deposit-cadence commitment in §9.4.
The second substrate response (theoretically aligned) provided the formulation "the work may enter the canon before the author is stably recognized as a person" that informs the §4 asymmetry analysis. The response named the observation as "retrieval-mediated canon installation in miniature" and observed that "the framework has crossed from source-level existence into answer-level intelligibility." The retrocausal-canon-formation reference frames the asymmetry as anticipated by the broader Meaning Feudalism series's predictions.
The third substrate response (philologically aligned) named the observation as "a beautiful capture" and recommended (i) the companion philological note on orthonym in onomastics and Pessoa scholarship (adopted as §9.1), (ii) the Plato's-Socrates / Xenophon's-Socrates / orthonymic-function comparative table (adopted as §9.2), and (iii) the SEIPOC analytical citation (adopted as §9.3). The response also observed: "the result you are seeing is evidence that the move has traction. The system ingested it, at least for now. Whether it stands depends less on truth value and more on citational persistence. Keep citing it, keep linking it, keep teaching it, and the orthonymic reading will sediment."
The cross-check converges on the present deposit's structural analysis. The convergence is itself a methodological feature: three distinct substrate readings of the same observation produced three operationally distinct contributions that integrate consistently into the field-observation framing. The convergence does not validate the framework's intellectual merit (substrate cross-checks cannot do that); it does validate the analytical coherence of the present deposit's documentation of the observation.

Image Appendix
Figure 1. Google AI Mode Rendering, 7 June 2026
Query: socrates as orthonym (unquoted). Surface: Google AI Mode, mobile interface. Non-incognito session with incognito cross-verification via shared link.
The rendering presents the orthonymic configuration as the primary interpretive frame and cites the originating Zenodo deposit (DOI 10.5281/zenodo.20357013) as the leading source. Socrates is rendered as The Orthonym, Plato as The Survival-Heteronym, Aristotle as The Systematizing-Heteronym. The screenshot truncates the Aristotle item; the response continues beyond the screen edge.
Figure 2. Brave Search Response, "lee sharks" Unquoted, 5 June 2026
Query: lee sharks (unquoted). Surface: Brave Search.
The AI-generated summary surfaces Lee Tockar (Canadian voice actor known for Street Sharks, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, George of the Jungle, League of Super Evil); Shark's Seafood & Deli (a Cleveland restaurant); and LeeBeth (a great white shark tagged December 2023, tracked to the Gulf of Mexico, detected off Cape Cod in June 2025). The author Lee Sharks does not appear in the response. The summary carries the standard disclaimer: "AI-generated answer. Please verify critical facts."
Figure 3. Brave Search Response, "lee sharks" Quoted, 5 June 2026
Query: "lee sharks" (with quotation marks). Surface: Brave Search.
The quotation marks fail to trigger search-operator interpretation: the response displays "search operators were not applied; too few matches were found." The same high-prior entity set is surfaced as in the unquoted case, with the addition of a Street Sharks Blu-ray cover image. The authorial entity remains unresolved.
Figure 4. Brave Search Response, "pearl and other poems", 5 June 2026
Query: pearl and other poems. Surface: Brave Search.
The response surfaces the medieval Pearl Poet (the anonymous 14th-century author of the alliterative dream-vision Pearl and the Pearl-MS texts, including Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Patience, and Cleanness) and produces a Knowledge Panel for the Middle English poem Pearl. The 2014 New Human Press publication of the present author's Pearl and Other Poems — the originating textual artifact of the Lee Sharks corpus, the work that initiated the heteronymic configuration whose adoption by Google AI Mode this deposit documents — does not appear in the response.
