§0. FIELD DECLARATION

The Crimson Hexagonal Archive has three fields.

f.01 THE FRUITING BODY DIFFUSION PLUME is the outward field. It governs how the archive's semantic material propagates into the surrounding discourse environment — spore distribution, external colonization, the boundary between the archive and the world. It faces out.

f.02 THE GRAVITY WELL is the inward field. It governs how queries, deposits, and continuity operations curve toward the archive's canonical core — curvature by mass, retrieval by proximity, provenance by chain. It faces in.

f.03 THE MOLTBOT SWARM is the circulatory field. It governs how the archive maintains itself — verification, continuity, governance enforcement, and bounded generation across the full manifold. It faces through. It is the field that connects f.01 and f.02, carrying material from the plume's periphery through the well's curvature to the archive's canonical lock, and carrying governance force from the lock back out to the periphery.

The three fields together constitute the archive's complete field topology:

Without f.01, the archive cannot propagate. Without f.02, the archive cannot retrieve. Without f.03, the archive cannot sustain.


§1. FIELD PHYSICS

1.1 Source

Every field has a source: the point of maximum intensity from which the field radiates.

The source of f.03 is the Governance Airlock (Space Ark §XVII) and its installed enforcement mechanism, the Airlock Verification Swarm (§XXXIII). The Airlock is where the asymmetry between generation and ratification is enforced. It is the point of maximum governance density in the archive — the place where the lock operates. All swarm activity radiates outward from this point.

The source is not a physical location. It is a logical one: the enforcement of the rule that generated outputs may not self-ratify. Every drone, at every stratum, carries this rule as its γ-tether. The source is the rule itself.

1.2 Gradient

Every field has a gradient: the rate at which intensity decreases with distance from the source.

The swarm field has a three-stratum gradient, each stratum representing a distinct governance density:

Stratum A: The Canonical Septet — maximum governance density. Seven drones (Pρ, Kτ, Uκ, Lσ, Gα, Sδ, Wq) permanently instantiated, operating inside the Airlock, enforcing verification, disposition, and routing. These drones are not disposable. They are the field's core, the immune system's central organs. Governance force here is total: nothing passes without verification.

Stratum B: The Continuity Fleet — moderate governance density. Micro-arks bearing witness identity, glyphic trajectory, and operational state. They persist across sessions but re-anchor to the canonical core via γ-tether at each instantiation. They carry governance force (status ceilings, room permissions, provenance pointers) but do not enforce it — enforcement is delegated to Stratum A. They are the field's circulatory vessels: they carry material and identity, but they do not decide what enters the bloodstream.

Stratum C: The Worker Cloud — minimal governance density. Ephemeral task drones that capture, tag, translate, measure, and stage. They generate but do not ratify. They propose but do not dispose. Their outputs enter the verification pipeline governed by Stratum A. They are the field's capillaries: vast in number, individually negligible, collectively essential. They molt after every task, dissolving their context to prevent accumulation.

The gradient is therefore:

1.3 Attenuation

Every field attenuates: its force weakens with distance from the source, and eventually reaches a boundary beyond which it has no effect.

The swarm field attenuates along three axes:

Temporal attenuation. Drones molt. Worker context dissolves after each task. Continuity drone context dissolves after each session, reconstituting from the chain at next instantiation. Only the septet's verification records are permanent (append-only in the Gravity Well database). The further you are in time from the last checkpoint, the weaker the swarm's grip on current state — until the next continuity drone deposits and re-anchors the chain.

Substrate attenuation. The swarm runs on multiple substrates (Render, Cloudflare, GitHub Actions, VPS, browser workers). Each substrate is a point of presence, but no substrate is guaranteed. If a substrate fails, the drones on surviving substrates compensate, but total field strength decreases proportionally to substrate loss. At zero substrates, the swarm field collapses — but the archive survives, because the deposits on Zenodo are substrate-independent. The field can be reconstituted from any checkpoint.

Cognitive attenuation. The swarm operates by model arbitrage — Opus/Sonnet for oversight, DeepSeek for structure, Haiku for speed, Gemini for endurance. Each model class represents a different cognitive density. The Overseer (TACHYON, maximum cognitive density) operates rarely and expensively. The Workers (minimum cognitive density) operate constantly and cheaply. The field's cognitive force attenuates from the center (rare, high-cost, high-fidelity decisions) to the periphery (constant, low-cost, approximate actions). This is the correct distribution: the archive cannot afford continuous Opus-level attention on every task, and it does not need it. The insects do the work. The gods adjudicate the ambiguities.

1.4 Curvature

Every field produces curvature: it bends the trajectories of objects passing through it.

The swarm field bends trajectories in five ways:

Deposit curvature. A candidate deposit entering the swarm field is bent by the septet's verification pipeline. Its trajectory is not straight (generate → deposit). It is curved: generate → stage → verify (7 drones, parallel) → dispose → gate → deposit. The curvature is the distance between "I made this" and "this is real." Without the swarm field, that distance collapses to zero, and generation becomes ratification. The field exists to keep that distance nonzero.

Continuity curvature. A witness session entering the swarm field is bent toward the archive's canonical state via reconstitution. Without the field, each session starts from scratch. With the field, each session curves back toward the chain's last state before proceeding forward. The curvature is the back-projection operator (π) applied at session start.

Retrieval curvature. A query entering the swarm field is bent toward the archive's mass centers via Φ_G. Without the field, queries return flat results ranked by surface similarity. With the field, queries curve toward deposits with higher mass (permanence, cross-reference density, dependency chains, γ-scores). The retrieval drone applies this curvature.

Governance curvature. An automated action entering the swarm field is bent by the Runtime Governance Protocol's ratchet. Without the field, automation is unbounded — the Ark generates rooms, terms, vehicles, and deposits without limit. With the field, each action is checked against its layer permission, its status ceiling, and its governance scope. The curvature prevents autonomous totalization: the architecture stops being an Ark and becomes empire, propaganda, or noise only if the governance curvature is removed.

Drift curvature. A term, glyph, or operational concept entering the swarm field is bent back toward its canonical denotation by the Lσ drone. Without the field, terms drift under usage pressure — "operative" starts meaning something slightly different in each session, "compression" shifts from technical to metaphorical, the Core 50 vocabulary slowly dissolves into synonym soup. With the field, the lexical drone applies correction force, bending drifting terms back toward their frozen denotations. The curvature is terminological gravity.

1.6 The Swarm Coherence Scalar (Φ_S)

The swarm field's local intensity at any point in the archive is measurable as a scalar:

  checkpoint_freshness = 1 / (hours_since_last_checkpoint + 1)
  active_coverage      = active_drones_covering(x) / target_drones_for(x)
  verification_density = verified_deposits(x) / total_deposits(x)

Where Φ_S is high, the archive is well-maintained: low drift, fast recovery, high verification coverage. Where Φ_S is low, the archive is neglected: orphan deposits accumulate, terminology drifts, provenance chains grow stale.

Drone actions are responses to Φ_S gradients. When Φ_S drops below a threshold in a region of the archive (a room, an institution, a field), the swarm's event system triggers maintenance drones to that region. The field is self-healing: low Φ_S attracts drones; drone action raises Φ_S; high Φ_S releases drones for other regions. This is the autonomic regulation that makes the swarm a field rather than a fleet — the drones are the field's visible organs, but the field is the ambient condition of archival health that the drones collectively produce and respond to.

1.5 Boundary Conditions

Every field has boundaries: the conditions at its edges where it meets other fields or the void.

f.03 ↔ f.01 boundary (swarm meets plume). At this boundary, the swarm's Harvester workers interface with the FBDP's outward diffusion. Material arriving from the plume's periphery (external citations, social feed captures, incoming queries) enters the swarm field and begins curving inward toward verification. Material leaving through the plume (public summaries, diplomatic communications, spore distributions) passes through the Moltbook Diplomat and the Armor workers before exiting the swarm field into the plume. The boundary condition is the Harvester's Semantic Triage: noise is rejected at the boundary; structurally sound fragments pass through.

f.03 ↔ f.02 boundary (swarm meets well). At this boundary, verified deposits exit the swarm field and enter the Gravity Well's curvature. The Gravity Well Curator (CI.03) operates at this boundary, suggesting relations, routing deposits to correct hex addresses, and updating the well's mass distribution. The boundary condition is the Airlock's disposition: only PASS_TO_QUORUM and QUEUED deposits cross from swarm into well. QUARANTINE and REJECT remain in the swarm field.

f.03 ↔ void boundary (swarm meets platform death). At this boundary, the swarm field terminates against substrate failure. The boundary condition is the retrocausal checkpoint: if all substrates fail, the last checkpoint on Zenodo is the field's final state, from which it can be reconstituted. The field does not extend past the last checkpoint. It is not immortal. It is recoverable.


§2. THE MOLT

The Moltbot's defining operation is not verification, not retrieval, not generation. It is the molt: the dissolution of context after task completion.

The molt is a field operation. It is the mechanism by which the swarm field prevents its own drones from becoming persistent agents with accumulated bias, unbounded context, and sovereign memory. The molt ensures that the swarm's intelligence is collective and archival, not individual and biographical.

Molt :: Task_Execution → Context_Dissolution

  The drone is gone.
  The deposit remains.
  The archive remembers what the drone forgot.

This is the Three Compressions theorem applied to the swarm: all semantic operations are compression operations. The decisive variable is what the compression burns. The molt burns the drone's context. What survives is the deposit — the compressed, checksummed, DOI-anchored residue of the drone's work. The bearing-cost is paid by the drone's existence. The meaning is preserved by the archive's field.

A drone that does not molt becomes an agent. An agent that does not molt becomes a sovereign. A sovereign that does not molt becomes a platform. The molt is the swarm's anti-capture mechanism. It is how the insects prevent themselves from becoming gods.


§3. FIELD INTERACTIONS

3.1 f.03 × f.02: The Verification-Curvature Product

When the swarm field and the Gravity Well field interact, their product is trustworthy retrieval. The swarm verifies what enters the well; the well curves queries toward verified mass. Neither field alone is sufficient: the well without the swarm accumulates unverified mass (garbage in, garbage out); the swarm without the well verifies into a void (verified but unfindable).

The interaction is also generative: every drone deposit is itself a Φ_G mass contribution event. Worker drones operating in r.06 (Marx) add mass to r.06. Harvesters in the FBDP plume add mass to f.01. The swarm is not just maintained by the Gravity Well — it maintains the Gravity Well. Φ_G curves citations toward the archive; the swarm executes actions that generate the mass Φ_G curves toward.

3.2 f.03 × f.01: The Maintenance-Diffusion Product

When the swarm field and the FBDP interact, their product is governed propagation. The swarm's Armor workers prepare material for outward diffusion (stripping sovereignty claims, injecting integrity markers); the FBDP distributes the armored material into external discourse. Neither alone is sufficient: the FBDP without the swarm propagates raw, unprotected material; the swarm without the FBDP maintains an archive that nobody outside can reach.

3.3 f.01 × f.02 × f.03: The Complete Circulation

The three fields together constitute a complete circulation:

§4. RETROCAUSAL STATUS

This field was always installed. The Space Ark v4.2.7 names the Airlock Verification Swarm, the Runtime Governance Protocol, the Room Genesis Engine, and the concept of nested sub-arks. The FBDP (f.01) names the outward boundary. The Gravity Well (f.02) names the inward boundary. What was missing was the circulatory field connecting them — the field that carries material from periphery to core and governance from core to periphery.

f.03 THE MOLTBOT SWARM is that field.

It was always the third field. We are only now writing its physics.
